Crime rate is increasing rapidly around the globe and as well as in Nepal. It seems death penalties might decrease the crime rate due to fear of dying. Although life imprisonment without parole seems harsh enough for severe criminals like murderers and terrorists, some still think that death penalty is the ultimate punishment for such criminals. People believe that punishment must match the level of crime, so death penalty seems to be the top level punishment for respective criminals. Thus death penalty seems justifiable for the families of victim of crime.
On the other side death penalty violates the most fundamental human right i.e. right to live. Death penalty by any means is inhuman and ultimate cruelty. There can be various alternatives to death penalty. Rather than executing the guilty/criminal, governing body can give life time imprisonment to such criminals. Death penalty might seem to control crime rates but there isn’t any proper evidence to prove so. Punishing a murderer by giving away a death penalty might not make sense for many. It matches the term “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” perfectly. For such inhumane reason Life imprisonment with no parole seems fairer than death penalty.
