Teen Driving Issues Project
Texting and Driving

Why is this a problem, especially for teen drivers?
The popularity of mobile devices has had some unintended and even dangerous consequences. We now know that mobile communications are linked to a significant increase in distracted driving, resulting in injury and loss of life. And driving and texting is something that most teens do because were the ones that love to be on our phones and talk to our friends and pals. Texting takes time and concentration and if your doing it while your driving then all of your attention goes to your phone and not to the road. Even if you take your eyes off the road for a quick second anything could go wrong.

Statistics from research regarding teen crash rates.
23% of teens in 2011 auto collisions involved teens
13% of drivers from ages 18-20 involved in car wrecks admitted to texting or talking on their cellular devices while driving.
82% of Americans 16-17 own cell phones
52% say that they talked on their phones while driving before
55% of teens claim its easy to text and drive
48% of kids have been in the/a car while the driver is texting and driving or talking on the phone and driving
More than 3,000 teens die each year in crashes caused by texting while driving
Approximately 2,700 teens are killed in drunk driving accidents
More than 50 percent of teens admit to texting while driving

How is one organization or group trying to solve this problem? Name group and what they are doing.
Teensagainstdistracteddriving.com
This is a organization founded by Jason Epstein from Seattle, WA. and other law groups from around the nation founded Teens Against Distracted Driving (TADD). The TADD program’s objective is to educate teens about the dangers of driving while distracted. On the webpage they encourage teens to pledge and sign up to be against texting and driving. They also want us to spread the word around and tell as many groups of people that we can gather like schools and anywhere they'll let us notify. And once your done they'll give you a bracelet that states that your against distracted driving.

How is another organization or group working to solve the problem? Name the group and what they are doing.

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW
Nearly 500,000 young adults each year are injured due to various forms of distracted driving, including texting, mobile instant messaging, updating social media platforms, sending photos, etc. It's a habit deadlier than drunk driving. We live in a constantly connected world where multitasking is second nature and communicating is instant. Coupled with this compulsion, teens and young adults are overly confident in their ability to 'safely' text while driving.

To stop this dangerous behavior, the Ad Council collaborated with the office of the State Attorneys General and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to create a Texting and Driving Prevention campaign. The campaign targets young adult drivers and aims to show them the consequences of this seemingly benign behavior. The campaign features Public Service Advertising (PSAs) in TV, radio, outdoor and web, as well as integrated digital and social media platforms. All advertising drives consumers to StopTextsStopsWrecks.org where consumers can find tips and tactics for how to curb this behavior.

Part 2 - Solutions for the Issue
There are many resources that you could use to prevent texting and driving from ever happening for example they should make a phone where you cant recieve any messages or calls if your moving at a rate of 40mph or faster because tin that case you wont be tempted to look at your phone and check anything because that'll help you avoid major car crashes going at faster speeds.

Something else that should be done to help solve or curb the problem. What I can personally do to make more people aware of this issue?
I could be a example of good car behavior and dont text or talk on the phone while I drive, or if I see someone else doing it i could tell them not to because something bad might come of it.
