Websites vs funnels

So you have got a website, you have some traffic and you are starting to get people in the door. Your next step is to figure out exactly what is going on with your website. You certainly need to know if it is profitable and if it is converting well.

This is where a funnel comes in. A funnel is a collection of steps and objectives designed to get your visitors to take a specific action. Once you have visitors you can start analyzing how you are converting them.

There are many different ways to do this but we are going to look at two different ways.

Analytics

The easiest way is to look at your analytics. Google Analytics is a very popular tool that will allow you to track everything from visitors to your conversions. In Google Analytics you will enter in your URL and you will be able to see exactly what your visitors are doing on your website.

For example, if you owned a store you would know how much traffic you are getting, what traffic sources you have, how many people are clicking on your call to actions, how many people are converting and what your conversion rate is.

You can look at all of this information and more and make decisions based on what it is telling you. The more information you have, the easier it will be to make informed decisions about what to work on and what to do.

Analytics also helps you to understand how your visitors are finding your website. For example, you may have a high bounce rate on your website. This means that visitors who land on your website are not clicking on the content or the calls to action.

A low bounce rate is very important, if it is low it shows that visitors are finding the content interesting and are engaging.

A low conversion rate means that visitors to your website are not converting. This could be because the content is low quality or it may be that the language or the exact offer are not appealing to them.

By looking at your analytics, you can identify problems, analyze what works and what doesn’t and start to make changes to fix your problems.

Cohort Analysis

A cohort analysis is when you compare a group of customers to each other. For example, let’s say you own a clothing boutique. To attract customers you have sent out brochures and flyers to people in your target market.

You have also set up your website and Facebook page. You have also seen some advertising on Google and Facebook. You currently have 100 customers.

A cohort analysis is when you look back at this group of customers and look at how they are behaving. For example, is your website converting well? Is Facebook working for your business? What can you learn from your customers?

By looking at your customers, you can identify problems, analyze what works and what doesn’t and start to make changes to fix your problems.

A funnel is a collection of steps and objectives designed to get your visitors to take a specific action. Once you got visitors you can start analyzing how you are converting them.

If you have followed guidelines and implemented analytics, a funnel will make sense. You can determine what it is you want to achieve and set about doing it.
