Segment 1 - Writing your Story
-Creativity can be stunted when you stop taking in life: movies, tv, friends, social interactions, analyzing the world around you. He was focused on client content, not his own personal stuff.
-Put yourself in a box. Give yourself a specific you have to work with, like maybe you want to make a breakup movie, or a movie that takes place in Tokyo. This is the opposite of thinking outside of the box, get in the box, define the box, then write it.
-Research is huge to start your story.
-Don't write what you know. Expand, enjoy other things.
-Write emotions that you are familiar with. The premise can be foreign.
-Macguffin (Plot Device): Hitchcock's Method. An unimportant object or ideal that everyone is pursuing or chasing. The Maltese Falcon, the necklace in Titanic, the NOC list in Mission Impossible.
-Red Herring: Misdirection, Twist, Trickery
-Deus Ex Machina: Impossible things solved by a god-like intervention.
-Use a music playlist that puts you in the mood for writing.
-Structure: Keep it simple, Beginning, Middle, and End. Establish character, world, and rules. Inciting Incident. Things get worse. Final Confrontation. Resolution.
-If you lock to hard on to structure, you'll never get anything done.
-Foreshadowing/Setup-Payoff: This keeps the audience from being pulled out of the film. If there is something in your story - use it! If not, trim it, it's just fat...it pulls you out. Trim the Fat, baby!

-Shot List
-StoryBoard: Cinemek HD, Frame Forge, or Hand Drawn (artist) - this is his favorite to do. Local Art Schools, students are great for this.
Shot Designer Pro
-Take a stop watch, read through the script, apply all the pacing and beats for your schedule. Don't go by the 1 page per minute.
-Start with the easiest shots first to build relations and to grow your trust with the team. Don't start with the big stuff.
-Don't forget to plan set-up time.
-Makeup and wardrobe.
-Stripboards/ can be used, generally set up by the assistant director.
