In 2025 Hi-Tech was extremely powerful, but soon an organization have taken over, and we have a shortage of land. The government corrupted after a long war. And teenagers have to go get tested on their mind to see how they react to day to day situations. Until one boy goes and saw that his personality can’t be predictable and then leads to another war for killing people for being uncontrollable.Death is easier than life. One of the Scientist,''This is shocking,he's beyond power!" he said with a straight face. Not that I have experience with it, but you can tell. Death would be easier than this pain I go through. The pain everyone goes through, the risk of being sent away. Of being different from everyone else.

Kevin had always loved chilly London with its regurgitated, rapid river. It was a place where he felt calm.

He was an independent, generous, none drinker with Gently face and tall body. His friends saw him as a damaged, deadly down to earth. Once, he had even brought a smiling brother back from the brink of death. That's the sort of man he was.

Kevin walked over to the window and reflected on his cold surroundings. The sun shone like flying crow around me.I walk down the stairs to breakfast. Chris, my annoying friend keep knocking at my house to go out and play. Mom is on the phone and it must be for work, as she seems upset. After screaming cursing into the phone, she slams it down and mutters another stream of swearing. Me and Chris glance at each other. Mom sighs and flops on a chair.
"Sorry kids. Must be the nerves."
"Why are you nervous, mum? It's my test." I remind her.
The test isn't so much a test as they get a microscope thing and look in your brain and heart. Afterwards, they send a letter to the family saying whether their kids heart is light or dark. Along with a label, we find our true name. For now, I'm Aprilynn Mercer but once I am discovered either light or dark I will get a new name. I don't know how, or why, it's just what I've grown up to know. I don't know much about the whole test, how it started, who started it and why they need darks gone. My older sister was named Velmen, but was discovered as being dark and she was renamed Maye. We don't talk about her. Mom is disappointed in her, I know it. I'm not sure about Dad, he hasn't talked properly in years. Mum says he's depressed. I jump as the toast pops out, and then laugh awkwardly and spread some butter and strawberry jam on it. The jam is homemade, one of mums many talents. Jasmin- Maye? Used to help her. They'd pick the berries, chattering and smiling while I watched. That hasn't happened in a long time. If you are claimed as Dark, you are basicailly sent off, away from the rest of us. I don't know what there is outside of Houston. People say there's nothing left of the world, but.... I don't believe that. I know I should, same as I should believe in the tests, but maybe I'm just protected to normal. Maybe I'm Dark?
*******************************************
Me and Chris, my friend, get a ride from her brother to the clinic where the test is taken. and I get out of the truck and start towards the glass doors. When we are inside, we check in. "Both fourteen?" The woman asks, and we nod. "Must be your test," she says knowingly. The test is taken once we turn 14 years old, again, I don't know why, but you don't ask questions. not unless you have a death wish. Me and Chris sit on a bench wrap in soft velvet, which I stroke until another receptionist gives me an icy stare. I drop my eyes and try to distract myself. A nurse with long dark hair and a blue nurse outfit on comes into the room. "Gwendolyn Rivers?"
Jasmine stands up, shaking slightly. I grip her hand.
"Jasmine."
She glances at me.
"It'll be okay."
Jasmine hesitates, then smiles and hugs me. "Thank you, Aprilynn."
I watch her as she walks down the hollow hall behind the nurse.
A minute goes by. 15 minutes. 30. An hour. I start to worry. what could take this long? The nurse comes back out, and says, "Aprilynn Mercer."
I stand up. "Is Gwendolyn okay?"
"She went out the back. Now, lets get going."
I follow her down the bright white hall, so clean it gleams. We get to a small room down the back, and she opens the door. I walk in to the room, which looks no different too where I would go to get a flu shot. Another nurse with bright red hair tied into a knot gestures towards the seat, big enough for me to lie down.
"All right. Before we take a look, we need to ask a few questions." She glares at the other nurse, who closes the door and sits down.
"Right. You are Aprilynn Mercer, correct?"
I nod, glancing around the room nervously.
"Have you had the flu or any illness recently?"
"No."
"You've been taking the shots regularly?
, "Yep."
