Let me share with you my story from my last Arctic cruise. It was an amazing, National Geographic journey thru the ice and back with polar Bears, and many more animals. There would be ice everywhere eyes could see as well as snow and ice all around. Machines made by humans were set to fight the elements and make way thru the frozen northern wasteland. It sounded like a huge project, a massive battle with the weather and the pole.

I was told to take all technology that could be carried in my bag. I did manage to pack my laptop and added a big screen to expand my working space. The there was no electricity issue. I wasn't sure what was ahead for me. I didn't know that, just two days into my 14-day trip, I lost my Internet connection and be gone for 10 days. It was a complete shock to me when it was happening. Every travel, however far or difficult, should cause a disconnect from the internet. Not only I've had an unfinished project to handle during the coming week, I also simply did not plan for downtime.


It doesn't matter if people need to shut off the internet. Internet is accessible wherever you are. mp3juicess cc free download In case your home connection goes down and you are unable to connect, there is always a McDonalds close by and avail of their complimentary WiFi to access the information you need. You could even take your laptops and settle in the Starbucks for all eternity and sit at a table and surf the Internet to the extent you want. There's no place or café that will be able to help you in the north, a long way from the nearest shack that has electricity generated by the weak generator.. You can't get free internet anywhere. There are two options: get a satellite connection or switch off.

I'm unable to afford a Sat phone. It's too expensive, particularly for Internet access. I will prepare an audio and video library to use for the next journey without Internet. Last time , I only had 2 songs. The songs were downloaded at the time, so all I could listen to was three jazz songs and one I had no idea the name of. I would have loaded my laptop with TV shows, films music videos, audio files that contained music and podcasts. I would listen to my favorite podcasts for hours. It's easy to download them, convert to MP3 and save them to my computer. I then can lay in bed and listen to the podcasts I enjoy, but rarely find the time to sit down and listen. It would have been my golden hour or two weeks of gold, but turned out to be two weeks of staring into the ceiling and running out to greet passengers every whenever a sound makes its way through the corridors..

The trip was empty literally as well as figuratively. Never before have I been this bored. The ice was thick. I was aware that this could eventually cause problems. So the boat had to be turned around and return to civilization. It wasn't a surprise however, the long hours of downtime could have been spent beneficially watching podcasts, listening to videos on fixing things at home, and simply listening to music. The next time, I'll convert Youtube videos into mp4 and MP3 formats on my laptop. Music will lift your spirits and give you a boost of energy. Remember that Netflix and Hulu apps allow you to download films and shows on your computer to watch offline. Also, these can be used on long trips to the arctic. But don't lose heart. Best of luck!
