It is also the place to receive visitors, it basically creates the atmosphere of the home and reflects the persona of the owners. It's also the place that family members gather together , relax, tell stories and make memories.

The Parlour Room
The living room was once known as the parlour room. It comes from Old French parloir or parler that means "to talk". Parlour was originally defined as a place set aside particularly for conversing or debating with people. Today, the living room serves the same purpose, as many families welcome guests to this area and have conversations with guests. The living space is not just a space for eating, but many families gather there to chat or have a chat. This is why it's referred to as the living room.
The Family Room
Long time ago in England, the quieter and smaller parlour where homeowners could retreat from the bustle of an intimate setting was called the withdrawing room, or the drawing room. In modern times, this function of the living space is performed by the family room , where the decor is more casual and relaxed, which is the reason it's sometimes referred to as the lounge room. In smaller houses the living room and the family room may still be combined.
The Art Gallery
The parlour began to share characteristics with the state room and the front room in the 16th and 17th century. The parlour is often the most decorated room in which the most impressive collection of furniture, photographs and paintings are displayed. Living rooms are the main household's face and serves the same purpose in the present. This is the reason why most people put the effort into designing their living spaces.
The Entertainment The Room For Entertainment
According to history, the first recognizable model of the modern-day living room was created in the United States in the 20th century. This was when the idea of putting new technologies in the living room came up. Many families in the Philippines convert their living spaces into entertainment areas. It's the perfect spot to have some family bonding time and to organize parties for guests.
The Reception Area
The past was when the parlour room was also used as the reception area for family weddings, births funerals, as well as other events. The living room can still be used just the same. The majority of these events are held in rooms that are rented however, the majority of families lease them. In the Philippines nevertheless, especially in provinces with remote locations families still use the living rooms to host guests to celebrate or mark these occasions.
The Living Room
The living room was once known as the death room. This was the case in the aftermath of World War I, when many people were killed in the influenza epidemic. In order to honor the dead, the dead bodies were kept in the living room of the home before being transported to funeral homes. This is how the death room was given the name. The room that is still used by Filipino families to host funeral ceremonies and funerals, was later changed from the death room, and later the living room as it is more lively than a room to mourn.
