Plumbing can be an exciting endeavor. No really, it can be. In terms of taking better care, doing your own plumbing repairs to save money is actually quite exciting. To start learning some basics as to how to make this work for you, please be sure to refer to the tips below.

If you are paying someone else to do the plumbing in your home be sure that they are licensed in your state to do that work. Found Here who have little or no knowledge of plumbing will try to pass themselves off as a pro. So you can see the importance of checking to see if your plumber is licensed. You should also see if you can find positive testimonials about the plumbers work.

Solder with safety in mind. When you solder a copper pipe you want to direct the flame on the copper pipe. The flame of the torch has to be four inches away from the piping. The flame should be targeted directly at the point where the copper piping needs to be disconnected.

If a pipe ever freezes, you need to make sure to shut off the water. This will keep the pipe from bursting and causing you major damage to your home. Make sure to shut the water off at the main valve, and then open the faucet that is closest to the frozen pipe so it can drain while it is thawing out.

You do not give the plumber all the money until he is finished with his work. You might have to give them a deposit, but do not give them the entire sum of money until you are sure they have done a good job. This ensures that the plumber fully completes the job before getting paid.

Don't shrug off that trickle coming from your toilet as a small problem. Even the tiniest leak can be quite expensive in the long run as you end up wasting potentially hundreds of gallons of water. See if you can find the root of the leak, or seek out professional advice, and keep your toilet running efficiently.

If you want to keep your kitchen drains from clogging up, don't pour grease down them. As it cools and congeals it can trap other food or waste particles, which over time can slow the draining of water and even form a clog that will not be easy to remove.

If water backs up from one sink to another, it is because the lines are connected. The part of the branch line for one device might be higher than another, but most likely there is also a blockage in the branch line connecting the two devices as well. This blockage must be cleaned.

DIY plumbing jobs will require that you understand how to solder copper for the lines for the water supply. You can practice this skill so that you will be able to run your lines without worrying about it leaking. Search online for video tutorials that can help you get a handle on how to go about soldering.

You can pour baking soda down a drain followed by some vinegar if you want to keep drains clear. This should be done once a month, and a cup each of baking soda and vinegar should be used. This will cause the vigorous bubbling you may remember from the "volcano" in a grade school science project, so be sure to close the drain with a stopper. Let that sit for a while, and then run boiling hot water down it. This should help clear your pipes of accumulated hair and soap scum.

A good tip to use when using your garbage disposal is to leave the water turned off. It is assumed that food will go down more smoothly if the water is running, though in reality that does nothing good. In point of fact, sending water and garbage through the disposal together can shorten its lifespan by encouraging more waste to stick to the moving parts.

Governmental regulations sometimes prevent plumbers from actively providing maintenance to copper piping. If you have a calcium buildup in your copper piping, you are going to need to take care of this yourself. You have to get rid of all the water and add vinegar which eats away the calcium buildup out of copper pipes.

Never hire a plumber that is not licensed, insured and bonded. If the plumbing company cannot provide you with reference numbers for their credentials, move on quickly. It is a common question and it should be a no-brainer for them to provide them to you. If they have issues with you asking, take that as a big red flag.

Do not shock yourself! Water and electricity do not mix well! If you are working with both electrical and plumbing issues at the same time, then you must avoid crossing them. Beware! The two together can be deadly! When water and electricity are mixed, the risk of getting a shock can be incredibly high, as well as deadly.

Check for leaks behind the wall tile in your bathroom, especially any tile surrounding your bathtub, by gently pressing each tile and feeling for some give. If you find any mushy or soft spots, you will need to find the source of the leak and repair it to prevent further damage.

To prepare for the cold weather, properly drain all outside faucet bibs and turn off the water supply to those faucets. A piece of foam taped to the outside bib can provide excellent insulation to prevent any remaining water from freezing or splurge for a specialty cover that comes complete with velcro closures.

Look at your hot water heater and make sure that the temperature is not higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is, it could cause you to get burned or it could reduce the unit's energy consumption. If you determine that the temperature is too high, adjust immediately to avoid any of these things from happening.

If you are seeing areas in your ceiling or walls that appear to have water damage or are sagging, make sure you turn off the power before inspecting. Electricity and water do not mix. The last thing you need is to go into the attic and get shocked by a pool of water.

As you can see, solving plumbing problems isn't so hard when you know what you're doing, or if you have the right advice. When you are well-informed it can save you agreat deal of money. Make a note of what you've learned in this article and see how easy it is either to fix your own plumbing problems, or at the very least, ensure that you get a good service from a professional.

Cold snap keeps plumbers busy with frozen-pipe calls

For some homeowners, having a plumber show up on their doorstep on Christmas Eve was better than having Santa come down the chimney.

Plumbing companies have been inundated with calls for help with frozen pipes, backyard irrigation lines and even some water mains during the cold snap.

“We had 60 calls over the Christmas weekend. It was crazy,” said Wade Roberts of Wade Roberts Plumbing. “On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we had one technician on call and another one helped out the one on call. They did a little bit of work together to help keep things going, but it’s impossible to keep up with that kind of call volume. It’s wild.”

It’s a bit of a sacrifice to be on call and away from family during the holidays, said Roberts.

“But the reward is great in the reaction you get from clients when you show up and fix their problem on a night like Christmas Eve,” he said.

“One of the technicians who was on all this Christmas was on call last Christmas as well and he wanted to be back out there because of the reaction and the thankfulness.

“One of the hot-water tanks he did last Christmas Eve, he put a big bow on it for the clients and wore a Santa hat and they were just thrilled. It can be rewarding for sure.”

To keep the plumber from your doorstep, Roberts strongly advises people to disconnect hoses from their outside taps and make sure the outside taps are shut off.

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1X3j2dUMkQqZ4ImAJ3qmoXo7Yp3HIN9bCIShITqsPUPg/edit?usp=sharing

Loading…

CONTACT:

Pioneer Plumbing North Vancouver

Email:

Phone: (604) 716-4946

Url: https://northvancouver.pioneerplumbing.com/

Image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jhWyTjy2o3JglLZ6_EwqOSUr8WhvR8NO/view?usp=sharing

cash, check, credit card, invoice, paypal

priceRange:

105-1305 Welch Street

North Vancouver, BC V7P 1B3
