Interview With Dave Cisar, Youth Football Coach
You know what they say regarding people who repeat the same thing but expect different results. This is often the traditional definition of "insanity." It seems that many of our youth football coach friends suffer from this player-decimating affliction. They do the same thing year after year, but end up with the same frustratingly poor or choppy results. I went through this post-season assessment in my first years of coaching youth soccer. My answer was that I needed to have better football players in order to solve my problem. My thoughts were that all I needed was a better x player, better y player, kids with more motivation, more size etc etc. It was always the children's fault. We would do well if we had a "good team".

The Blindside (2009)- This movie is the real life story of Michael Oher, who went through many hardships and obstacles in life to go to college and eventually become a pro football player. The movie opens with a 17-year-old Michael Oher being befriended and given a place to live by the Tuohys. They soon develop a bond with each other and he is then adopted by them. Sean Tuohy is able to help him get higher grades and be a part of the school's football program. Due to his size, his performance starts to attract the attention of top colleges across the country. He chooses Ole Miss as his alma mater. Sandra Bullock won the Best Actress Award. Quinton Aron and Sean Tuohy star in the film.

We take 24 children who sign up to play in the rural area that I coach. This is based on a flyer that we give out at their school.

If possible, do it before your junior year in high school. This will help keep you from trying to go to schools that you might not even qualify for, which will help you spend your time more wisely throughout this process.

Try attending FBS (D1A), FCS, DII, and DIII games in your local schools to get a better sense of your talent. This will enable you to witness the level at which each level is contested so that you can make an accurate assessment.
