Hello. My name is Alex, and I've joined the Physics with Medical Applications course in order to work in the Medical Physics field in the future. Preferably to work on the treatment of patients or even making medical devices. I started my search for schools with a few criteria in mind. I wanted to go to a stable English speaking country that is central to the rest of the world. After that, I narrowed it down to looking for schools related to what I wanted to study in the UK. I'm typically an analytical person, so what I did next was to look at the modules offered as well as possible work experience. Now, that's all well and good. It taught me that it will teach me what I wanted to learn to attain my goal. What made Queen's stand out in comparison to other schools were 2 things: the Physics Online open day, and the admissions team. I enjoyed getting to know the different professors, and even though 1 of them is completely new to the school, he went out of his way to look up information for me on multiple occasions. Similarly, the admissions team was always timely with their replies and of course helpful. They may seem small, but it showed me that many of the people at Queen's are willing to go out of their way to help, and I can't say that about every school. It also helps that after I got my acceptance, my best friend mentioned he studied at Queen's as well, so I got even more insider knowledge.
As for the 2nd part of your question, how the program will benefit my career aspirations, I went about it the opposite way. I know the career I'm looking for, and this programme is the one I believe will get me there. It may be more straightforward for me, but to be a Medical Physicist, you must first study Physics. The reason this programme is different is because I'd also have the opportunities to work with hospitals or medical institutions potentially in a placement year to get more experience and know which direction I actually want to take the degree.
