In Turkey, Adana, carrying to the future of rich history and culture numbered among the provinces. Adana is a major city in southern Turkey. The city is situated on the Seyhan River, 35 km inland from the north-eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
The history of Adana province goes back to the ancient times and even 3000 years before Christ. According to a legend, the two sons of the sky god Uranus, named Adanus and Sarus, came to Adana after fighting and gave the name Adanus to the city they founded. Seyhan River also took the name of Sarus. When the Turks crossed the Taurus Mountains and went south, they named it Çukurova. The historical name of Çukurova is Kilikya. Cilicia got its name from the lime deposits. Because the names used for Adana caused confusion, it was decided to write the name of the region as Adana with an edict published in the Ottoman Period in 1878.
