My promoter Barbara Sobel does the booking for the legendary Stonewall Inn so that might be a great place for him to perform. It's a small venue but it's so iconic and usually has its own crowd of regulars so that might help if he doesn't have a huge following established in NYC already.
If you are looking for a more acoustic or unplugged type of event you might want to reach out to the Cutting Room but he would be required to draw his own crowd.
A guy named Chip Duckett owns a promo company called Spin Cycle and they do a lot of gay themed events that he may be able to get involved with as well.
By next summer I will be booking shows myself as well so there is always the chance that he can open for me if I have a great venue or event set up.
My friend DJ/Promoter/Blogger Chauncey Dandridge might be a good resource for you as well. He knows a lot of venues in NYC.
