Miss Baker,
I am writing this letter in order to apply for the role of prefect (evidently of Chemistry). I was more of a maths student when I first joined this school in 2015, but in the recent years, my passion has spread its wings and swiftly flown over to science, which I am sure is the field I will place my future in (particularly, in Chemistry). On the topic of future, I believe that science and technology are akin to two giants, the future firmly planting its feet on a shoulder of each of them. This is the very reason that I revere all of science (yes, even Biology) and advocate for its presence in the younger years of school. Therefore, were I to become a prefect, I would love to help out in the STEM club, to perhaps help these younger students realise the same roaring flame that I discovered for the field of Chemistry in recent times.

Not only do I bear a love for the topic, I am devout. Even when something I love is difficult to pursue, I manage to make it work. I have attended a volleyball club in South-West London called Little Giants for just under 2 years, despite the distance (the commute is about 90 minutes one-way). Even though volleyball is almost unheard of in this country, I pursued my dreams and went on to become the captain of the boys team and even went to 2 matches along with the men's team, being the youngest person in the roster. And all of that I did through training hard; despite my unimpressive height, I learned to jump, to fly over any obstacles in my path. To add to this, volleyball is an intense team sport- this has taught me excellent teamwork and communication skills which I believe I could utilise just as well in being a prefect. And I could do the same were I to become a prefect. To destroy any challenges I face; be it to alter the displays in the science corridors, to write model answers for difficult exam-style questions, to help out at a GCSE science revision club: I can do it all. To add to this, volleyball is an intense team sport- this has taught me excellent teamwork and communication skills which I believe I could utilise just as well in being a prefect. On top of all of this, I am among the 5 students in the school to take a 4th A-Level, Further Maths: this clearly shows the disposition to learn and the ability to use time efficiently.

So please, were you to consider me a "prefect of Science," I would wear the badge of honour and lead the Science department to victory, not only efficiently but also effectively. It would be a delight to help out the department that has helped me discover my love for Chemistry, and an honourable way of giving something back. I genuinely think that I would thrive in a position that will both challenge me and enrich me. I believe I am of the caliber required to set an example to others and to carry out responsibilities involved in prefectship. I therefore invite you to seriously consider my application, and to offer me the opportunity of becoming a prefect of your department.
