Seni Peran. Berasal dari kata 'Seni' yang berarti gagasan seseorang yang di tuangkan melalui media tertentu dan menggunakan teknik tertentu sehingga ,menghasilkan suatu nilai estetika sendiri dan 'Peran' yang berarti aspek dinamis dari suatu status (kedudukan).
Definisi Seni Peran adalah salah satu cabang ilmu seni yang khusus mempelajari bagaimana tehnik menciptakan dan memainkan peran (berakting) sebagai seorang tokoh tertentu baik di atas pentas (panggung) mau pun dalam sebuah film. Dan pelaku seni peran ini disebut sebagai aktor. Sementara sebutan artis, agak melebar dan kurang bersifat spesifik dan substansial. Seni Peran bisa dibilang sebagai Seni Akting.
Seni Peran atau seni akting adalah sebuah ilmu seni yang sangat panjang (rentang waktu analisisnya) sehingga dikatakan seni yang tidak akan pernah selesai (masa pembelajarannya). Selama seorang aktor itu masih bernapas, ia masih terus belajar diantara lahirnya karya-karya seninya.
Seorang aktor yang telah memainkan seribu peranan sekalipun, tetap akan mempelajari lagi peranannya saat ia akan memainkan peranannya untuk yang keseribusatukalinya.
