ch 5: so they're out on patrol. raph and casey run into foot, but they stay hidden and manage to snag a mutagen canister. they run into Leo and mikey, who also found a canister, and go home. splinter says they can't go out alone anymore. donnie is delighted with the mutagen and says that he had a close call getting the blood, but he did get a sample and took some from himself and sensei as well. once everyone is back, they gather with karai in the dojo so April can try to reach her mind. April says that most of Karai's mind is just kind of dormant? donnie is glad he can finally get to work figuring out what happened to karai

ch 6: a few days later, the brothers drag donnie out with sensei's permission. he's been in the lab for a while, raph wants to check on his pigeons, and Leo wants to do a training exercise. so they go for a run, and they're also checking on the pigeons and looking out for mutagen. the exercise is king of the mountain or a sort: Mikey's got donnie's mask (donnie was NOT happy about that) and Leo tells donnie to come up with a plan to get it back, except Mikey's on the other side of a four-way intersection, but while donnie's coming up with a plan, they see mikey get ambushed by the foot and they're too far away to help. so of course donnie snaps into protective mode, comes up with a plan on the fly and starts barking orders (he sends his grappling hook across the intersection and has raph and Leo run across, then he calculates an angle, swings onto a truck, and leaps up onto the building and circles around back). they fight off the foot, and then of all people KARAI is there and the turtles get desperate, but with her help they do win the fight and then Karai's still freaking out and she fucking bites raph. he starts hallucinating and then passes out.

ch7: raph wakes up to donnie and mikey hovering above him, and they call for Leo and sensei, and raph finds out he's been out for a whole day because sensei used the mantras and donnie had to come up with an antivenom. so raph is understandably upset and asks where karai is, and he's furious she's just roaming around the lair again (she got locked up for almost biting Leo but she actually DOES bite me and no one gives a shit?) but he doesn't want to seem like a whiny baby so he bites his tongue. but karai continues to rub him the wrong way. he takes to spending as much time as possible in the lab with donnie so he doesn't have to run into karai, so he's really the only one who notices how much blood donnie takes from himself (even though raph offers a lot) and raph gets really suspicious. he's also freaked out by the amount of times donnie's experiments have either exploded, burst into flame, or caused a gas reaction that forced them to evacuate. also donnie's decided to make darts with Karai's venom. he and his brothers have been going on patrols a lot, too, and though they branch out farther and farther, they manage to avoid the foot (and the Kraang on one memorable occasion, who they stop from breaking into a bank or smth). one night Mikey's in there talking about karai, who he's been spending time with, and raph loses his temper and yells at him, and donnie intervenes and eventually they get raph calmed down enough to rant about what's been bothering him--he's upset about his near death experience and he's hurt no one else is mad at karai. donnie and mikey try to comfort him and eventually Leo wanders in and starts to comfort karai until donnie tells him to approach it like a brother instead of a leader, and Leo realizes how upset raph is, truly, and they talk and try to reassure him and apologize, and they say they're not mad at karai for the same reason they weren't mad at her when she almost bit Leo: she's not in control. but they say it's alright he's upset and he doesn't have to forgive karai etc etc and in the end they tell him they love him and they were so scared when he was bitten (like, they give him stories of sensei refusing to leave his side for hours until he was stable, and donnie working himself for hours straight to come up with a cure, and mikey admits he had to try not to beat the shit out of karai as they herded her back to the lair, and they say Leo carried him home and only let go of him when sensei arrived to administer the mantra). and raph does feel a bit better

ch 8: two weeks after raph was bitten, donnie finally comes up with a cure. once he's got the formula down, he rejoins them on patrol regularly, and within another week, they've got enough mutagen for donnie to make a cure. when the time actually comes, donnie finally takes blood from April and, surprisingly, himself. they cure karai, she thanks them and apologizes profusely, including April who is there and somewhat reluctantly forgives her, and once again karai agrees to stay and, having learned her lesson, not move out. and Raph's like great glad that's over, and then he confronts Donnie about the blood, and donnie looks to master splinter for help but splinter doesn't say anything, and donnie tries to make excuses but raph just grabs donnie's arm and shoves up his elbow pad and reveals the huge bruise on his elbow from how much blood he's taken from himself. and finally he comes clean about the blood thing and admits his big dark secret, and everyone's kind of shook but chill of course, and mikey demands they have a party, he says he helped casey make a cake, and they play music and spend the rest of the night relaxing.
