Notes - notes.io

1. Millions of people moved to American cities in hopes to find industrial jobs. I see an Irish man in dusty, mud-covered overalls working in a factory. He is working with some sort of chemicals.
2. immigrant families comprised the majority of the total population of major American cities by the early 1900s. I see a nuclear family huddled together in a cramped space. The father is tending to a fire while the mother and children huddle together with a blanket wrapped around them.
3. Overcrowding soon became an issue in these neighborhoods. I see a building with four windows. If you look in each window you can see between five and eight people in each one living in a very cramped space. Some people are huddled together in blankets, others are working at desks, some are drinking coffee, and some are in bed.
4. Innovations in farming resulted in a need for fewer people in that line of work. I see a farm with one farmer. There is a large field of wheat and a red barn in the distance. On the left, there is a large group of cows eating grass. The farmer is tending to the field of wheat.

6. New immigrants moved to houses left behind by working-class families that were overcrowded. I see a very cramped lobby of some sort of building where people are shuffling around each other trying their best to get something or somewhere.
7. Cities couldn't replace the old transit system. I see a man walking next to a subway. He is holding a hat to his chest and a brown jacket is hung on his arm. He is walking home after getting off the subway after a long day of work.
8. Settlement houses: Settlements sought to aid immigrants. I see a community home. There is a large tree next to the house and bushes lining the perimeter of it.
9. Settlement houses offered subjects such as English and health. I see a classroom taught by a middle-aged woman. The classroom is filled with people ranging from children to full-grown adults. The Woman stands in front of a chalkboard holding a piece of chalk.
