Ive worked with art/design students all my live…as teacher, guidance counselor (at DASH in Miami) and at 4 different art college admissions offices. Have visited all off these programs.
Your student sounds well informed….she is focusing on the best animation programs out there…taking off some of the schools listed makes sense.
Ringling and Laguna are not as difficult to get into for animation as CalArts and ACCD, especially the latter is like a direct admit into the major, and both require a very specialized and focus portfolio with VERY strong observational skills and concept.
If she has that kind of a portfolio, her academics will not matter that much. If not, she won’t get in. ALL depends on portfolio -almost like applying to an MFA program in that sense.
Keeping some of the other animation programs on her list -RISD, MICA but also SVA, would be a smart move.
She clearly is looking for art programs, not academic. I assume she is a JR or Soph…..she needs got take pre college programs and as much art/design courses as possible.
Some others recommended RIT, Drexel, SAIC and College of Visual Arts....I will add them to your portal.
Laura, I added more schools. Some seem to have what you want: Columbia College in Chicago and School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston that has a joint program for a BFA with Tufts University. Please check it out....also, please review these two websites: www.nationalportfolioday.org and www.aicad.org. Thanks!!! Catherine
Here is the compiled list from all of my colleagues that responded to the post that I put out about what you are looking for:

*Cal Arts(done)
RISD(done)
Minneapolis College of Art and Design
*College of Creative Studies
Gnomon (done) (I have done extensive research and it is a for-profit school much more of a vocation feel from the presentation I had with a marketing/admissions team member)
