Important Notes, In Order:
3 things to know
- know your style
- best color (black navy tone) (navy or dark gray is best) (dark suit looks good in all occasions, especially at night) (go for no design on suit, just go plain color)
- what flatters your figure

Step 1:
[Jacket]
Find
- weather aspect: Medium weight worsted wool suit will get you through most temperatures (medium)
- look for suit by chest size (41)
- make sure the lapel isn't rolled too high (probably means not flared out collar) to show very little shirt and tie
Shoulder
- should fit the shoulders and not pull out the sleeve head
- shoulder should only have a quarter of an inch extra (any more it starts collapsing)
Body Fit
- should not be gaping when buttoned up
- having buttoned the button right above the belly button, there should be a half-inch excess in front of the suit when pulling out for curvature
- jacket should lie flat against the back with no creasing
Arms
- jacket should show a little bit of shirt cuff underneath (one guys said 1 cm; quarter to half inch)
- bottom of your jacket should not extend beyond your fingertips with your arms at your sides
- jacket length (rule of thumb): when arms by your side, the jacket should go to your thumb
Additional Tips
- always button on two or three buttons, always leave the bottom one open
- larger the lapel, larger the shirt and tie you need
- make sure your suit fits you well: don't buy too big or baggy

Step 2:
[Trousers]
Find
- pants: nothing wrong with pleats (flat front pants for when you don't have a jacket)
- should be comfortable, not too baggy nor too tight
- fabric on the hip should lie flat
- half-inch excess with the waist or inserting three fingers (maybe four for me)
Making It Fit
- pant cuffs: cuffs (short-legged) or plain bottoms (long-legged) both types are proper (suit pants shouldn't bag overshoe or show too much sock)
- make sure trousers are not too long and just breaks on shoe (where top middle knuckle of foot is without the shoe)
- half-inch excess with the waist or inserting three fingers (maybe four for me)
Additional Advice
- not too baggy or too tight

[Final Check]
Top 5 Tips (all about proportions and fit)
- shoulder is the most important, everything else can be altered
- when jacket is buttoned (there should be a slight pool)
- jacket length (up to thumb, from before)
- sleeve length
- pants have to fit (pants need to be tailored and tapered) (not too baggy and not too long)
