Project topic or focus: What’s the project’s main idea or overarching subject?
- To inform the public about the emergence of NFTs in the art world and how they can be used to empower digital artists in a world where digital art is not appreciated/undervalued due to the fact that they only exist in the digital world and can be easily "copied" by
What do you hope that your project might achieve?
- To set the record straight and clear up any misconceptions about the role that cryptocurrencies play in NFTs.
- To spark an interest in the current and next generation on the possibilities that NFTs and cryptocurrencies alike could have not only in digital art but explain the decentralized currency aspect of it as well (power to the people).
Platform or venue?
- If it were to be in person I could see this exhibition in an art museum in NY like the met or the Guggenheim given their reputation for hosting some of the most important artists in history
- If it were online I could see it existing as a stand alone website or an interactive exhibit on a news site such as the NYT given their reputation for interactive articles.
Audience?
- My audience would definitely be the younger age groups as they are more in tune with the world of cryptocurrencies and the newly emerged topic of NFTs. The most popular group would probably be in the age range of 18-24.
Potential collaborators?
-Seeing as Sotheby's auctioned the most expensive NFT of all time (so far), ideally it would be a collaboration with them, but there are a number of prominent NFT companies that exist that Im sure would be interested in helping out as well. Potentially a group effort?
Obstacles?
-Seeing as NFTs are a new thing, there is a lot of debate on the ethics involving NFTs. Because NFTs use cryptocurrency and exist on the blockchain, they use up a lot of electricity. It is estimated that bitcoin mining uses more energy than renewable energy currently being produced so there is a large amount of people who detest cryptocurrencies for that reason and in turn NFTs. As NFTs are relatively new, there is still a debate on whether or not they are a needed or even useful thing as most people do not understand why they exist in the first place.
