How did President Hoover React?

Hoover believed that the economy would fix itself, and expected private businesses and organizations to hire and find solutions.

How did President Roosevelt appeal to the American people?

Roosevelt attempted to create an emotional connection with the people, using techniques to get people to trust him as a comrade, such as the Fireside Chats. He clearly outlined the problem and addressed them, assuring the people that he would take action

What was the New Deal?

The New Deal was a series of policies that President Roosevelt implemented to help the economy recover from the Great Depression. The goals were to give relief, to recover, and to reform. Reform - FDIC, or the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which ensures banks have enough to pay back their depositors. Relief - CCC, or the Civilian Conservation Corps, which temporarily employed young men with labor jobs to work on public works. NRA, or the National Recovery Act, regulated fair wages and prices to assist economic recovery. (Failed)

Who opposed the New Deal?

The New Deal was opposed by three notable groups: The Liberty League opposed the New Deal because it interfered too much within their businesses. The Conservatives also opposed the New Deal because they believed it made people to reliant on the government, and Huey Long opposed the New Deal because he felt that the government wasn't doing enough to help the citizens.

How did FDR expand the power of the Executive Branch?

By issuing many Executive Orders and trying to quickly create committees and organizations without the approval of congress, he took some of the power that was originally granted to the legislative branch. Congress and the Supreme Court often overturned Roosevelt's attempts, which caused Roosevelt to try and introduce "court packing," which allowed him to pick more justices.

How was the Great Depression different from others?

Firstly, it was a much bigger depression than its predecessors, putting the unemployment rate all the way up to 25%. People lost their homes because of mortgages. People who did have jobs got less work hours and more pay cuts, while people who did not had no food or the land to grow food.
