The venomous zebra cobra found in north Raleigh is trapped by a glue trap.
Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

The glue was removed from the cobra's body by putting it in a red bucket and transporting it to a safe location.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap eventually entrapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.

Cobra was placed in red bucket and moved to a safe location to fully remove glue from its body.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

The ordeal is over at last, said neighbor Joan Nelson.

I feel a lot safer, said she. I feel extremely happy. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

A zebra cobra has been missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where this stunted snake is seen.

Zebra cobras are fast, can spit up to nine feet, and can spit at high speeds, making even morning dog walks dangerous. It is very dangerous, according to the African Snakebite Institute. It could cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.

Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In addition to a heavy fever and breathing problems, respiratory failure could also result.

Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.

The cobras in this species are not typically biting. They spray their venom more often -- they are very accurate and attack straight in the eye, according to her.

Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.

In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. Health problems can linger for years for people who are bit, according to research.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.

There was an animal issue at that home in March. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

There are county records showing that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. According to a Facebook account linked to Keith Gifford's name, he has several photos of snakes he claims to own with his son, Christopher.

His TikTok account has more than 460000 followers. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
