A glue trap ends a days-long search in north Raleigh for a venomous zebra cobra.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

It was taken to a safer location to be fully cleaned after it was guided into the bucket and guided out.

As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

Cobras were placed inside red buckets and taken to a safe location so the glue could be removed completely from their bodies.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

My feeling of security has improved, she said. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

A striped snake lies out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has disappeared.

Even a morning dog walk can prove dangerous for this snake, a zebra cobra that can spit up to nine feet. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.

Anyone exposed to the poison of the cobra would experience immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. It would then lead to a high fever and breathing problems, which could cause respiratory failure.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. It is more likely that they will spray their venom . They are very accurate and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

Most bites occur while people are sleeping. Researchers found that bit individuals could suffer health issues for years to come.

It has been reported that police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near the location where the cobra was last spotted.

An animal problem led to four police visits in March. Approximately half a mile away, they spotted the zebra cobra on a porch, prompting them to return on Monday and Tuesday.

Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. There is a Facebook account for Keith Gifford that shows several photos of snakes that he claims are owned by his son, Christopher.

His TikTok account has more than 460000 followers. One of his posts claims that he owns a 7-foot zebra cobra.
