Poker Odds - A Beginners Guide
The dealer deals to the person closest to the button and gives each player two cards. The button's left side must place a small blind chip (SB), while the button to his right must place a BB chip. The blinds are to start the action and the size depends on the limit of the game. Limits can be as low as 2 cents/4cents (when you play online) and as high as any amount. The most popular limits are $1/$2 and $5/$5. We will assume that we are playing 1-2 with no limit. So the SB makes $1, while the BB makes $2.

Texas Holdem is a game of community poker. Five cards will be dealt in the middle. Each player will receive two cards (hole cards, individual cards) and you will have to combine these cards with the community cards in order to create the five-card hand. The community cards consist five cards which are dealt in three tranches. The flop is the first of the three cards dealt. One card would then be the turn. The fifth card dealt in the middle would be called the river.

Players may now discard or throw away any or every card from their first deal. All cards discarded are placed face-down, and the dealer collects them.
