Pemuda berkulit kaya pigmen itu terus berlari tanpa menghiraukan arah. Berusaha tetap bersama cahaya. Namun kegelapan seolah menggiringnya.
"Sial! Jalan buntu!" Decih Kai. Ia berbalik dan mendapati kegelapan berhasil menyudutkannya. Pupil mata Kai melebar, memaksa melihat apa yang berada dalam kegelapan.
Si pemuda tan terbelalak. Sekitar dua meter di hadapannya, sesosok makhluk dengan iris semerah darah tengah menatap bengis ke arahnya.
Kai membeku di tempat selama beberapa saat. Berpikir untuk melarikan diri. Ia nekat memanjat pagar pembatas di depannya.
Seolah tak mengizinkan Kai pergi, makhluk itu melesat cepat ke arahnya. "......!"
"ARGH!" Makhluk itu merobek kaki kanan Kai. Liquid merah pekat mulai menghiasi aspal.
Dengan gemetar Kai mencoba bangkit dan melarikan diri. Namun keberuntungan nampaknya belum berpihak padanya.
"Grrh!..."
BRUK!
Makhluk itu menerkam Kai dari belakang. Kai tidak sanggup menjaga keseimbangannya. Gravitasi berhasil menariknya dan kepalanya membentur trotoar.
"Khh.." Pemuda itu dapat melihat bayangan makhluk itu semakin mengeliminasi jarak antara mereka.
Kai meringis, ia sudah pasrah. Kakinya yang terasa mati rasa sudah tidak memungkinkan untuk membawanya kabur lagi.
Makhluk itu pasti akan menjadikannya santapan makan. Kai meruntuki dirinya yang selemah ini.
"......" Kelopak mata Kai mulai menutup. Sayup-sayup ia mendengar suara debuman keras, seperti benda besar yang jatuh, disertai erangan makhluk itu.
Kesadaran Kai menghilang tepat saat ada sosok lain yang muncul untuk membalaskan perbuatan makhluk itu padanya.
