Founded in 2013 by 14 year-old Jacob Cramer, Love for the Elderly is an organization based in Cleveland, Ohio, dedicated to providing joy and happiness to the elderly.

So often, elderly people have no one to care for them, no one to look after them, and no one to love them. Love for the Elderly collects anonymous letters filled with kindness and distributes them to seniors in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Their goal is to show as many elderly people as possible that they care about them and love them.

Jacob explains, “I started this project because I felt a need to give compassion and love to the elderly. Often times, they go forgotten and isolated from the outside world. I wanted to show them the kindness that they deserve.”
So many elderly people have no one to care for them, no one to look after them, no one to love them. When I say this, I am talking about pure, genuine love. Unconditional love that exemplifies the ideals of kindness and devotion no matter what the circumstances may be. The elderly have paved the pathway of success for my generation. They deserve to be shown appreciation and kindness, but are often neglected. I am sure all of you have someone in your hearts who has been at a nursing home or living facility. Think of them while I say this: they deserve the best, and nothing but the best. The elderly are such a phenomenal group of people, and their radiating wisdom can most definitely be learned from. This idea of appreciating the elderly reverberated inside my head, until finally, I decided it was time to step up and make a difference.

Hi, my name is Jacob Cramer. I am a freshman at Orange High School, and in 2013, I founded an organization called Love For The Elderly. My passion for writing led me to create this organization, where people from all across the globe send anonymous letters filled with kindness and joy; Iceland, Romania, Finland, Australia; you name it! I then send these letters to senior centers, nursing homes, and retirement communities located all across the country. To this date, I have collected over 1,000 letters, and the response I have received from these facilities has been truly unbelievable.

This past month, I had the opportunity to receive $100 from KindSpring through their monthly kindness contest to help my organization. This money has been of great help. We do not receive much funding, and so it helped to pay for many costs, including postage and envelopes, among other things. This gesture of kindness has been very beneficial to my organization, and I could not be more gracious. Thank you so much to KindSpring for this amazing opportunity! It is greatly appreciated! Thanks! :D While most early high schoolers are adjusting to a new school, figuring out how to open their lockers, and maybe hanging out and eating pizza with friends in their spare time, 14-year-old Jacob Cramer is busy coordinating Love For The Elderly, his project to collect and distribute letters of kindness to senior citizens throughout America.

The letters and cards are flooding in from all over the world, each one brightening the day of its recipient. Cramer says he wanted to do “something productive” with his free time. Spreading happiness, especially to those who might otherwise feel isolated? We’d say that’s out favorite kind of being productive.

Cramer had always been passionate about giving back and helping others. He eagerly wanted to make a difference, and began thinking of what he could do to touch the lives of the elderly, a group which he felt could greatly benefit from additional tender, loving kindness. Then, he thought of writing anonymous letters of kindness. Although it seemed a strange concept at first... writing kind messages to people you have
never even met, his idea quickly became a reality. Love For The Elderly donates cards and letters to various organizations, where they are then distributed to seniors.. Letters come from all over the world; some close to the Cleveland suburbs where Love For The Elderly is based, and some as far away as Australia! Romania, Sweden, Germany, Iceland; you name it!
