Psikolog adalah seorang ahli dalam bidang
praktik psikologi, bidang ilmu pengetahuan
yang mempelajari tingkah laku dan proses
mental. Psikolog dapat dikategorikan ke
dalam beberapa bidang tersendiri sesuai
dengan cabang ilmu psikologi yang
ditekuninya, misalnya psikolog klinis,
psikolog pendidikan, dan psikolog industri.
Tetapi kata "psikolog" lebih sering
digunakan untuk menyebut ahli psikologi
klinis, ahli psikologi di bidang kesehatan
mental. Ada, perbedaan antara, psikolog dan psikiater. Dalam hal penanganan masalah, psikiater boleh memberikan terapi obat-obatan
(farmakoterapi),sedangkan psikolog tidak
diperbolehkan.Psikolog hanya sebatas
memberikan konsultasi Obat-obatan ini
dibutuhkan misalnya kepada anak-anak
yang menderita kecanduan atau gangguan
psikosomatis.
