Google's Social Impact - What Is It?
The future of Google is not a simple one. What once was magazine in the search engine business is now a tiny force lagging behind Yahoo and MSN in most searches done on PCs. If you ask me, I think that Google might have underestimated the level of competition they might face from Facebook, MySpace and other social media websites. However, if magazine ask me, Google's forecast might not be as bright as the future predictions make it out to be.

Now that Google has started to experiment with its search results, it has become clear to me what its future looks like. It looks like it will continue to focus on providing unique, relevant content for websites that drive visitors. These websites are the ones that serve the real business needs of humans. magazine as Yahoo and MSN provide search results based purely on user input. These companies don't care about how the information on their websites is obtained.

Google's experiments with its new feature may cause these other sites to compete more aggressively with Google. This may cause some search engines to lower their rankings in order to remain in the race. I believe that sites like Twitter and Facebook will continue to see their traffic decline as long as users continue to flock to these social networking sites. Sites like Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the ones most likely to lose users to competitors in the future. Their search engines will become too reliant on personalization, which might lead them to make mistakes that limit their own ability to deliver quality results.

As Google's experimentation with its social platform continues, so will the threats to its social impact. magazine of the biggest threats that it faces right now is the loss of its core competency: Search Engine Optimization. SEO is what makes any website successful. Without this crucial service, websites won't be able to compete on Google and other major search engines for the right keywords and unique content. The result will be fewer clicks and higher bounce rates on Google websites.

A second risk lies in the way that Google will change its policies to protect its brands and increase its own control over its online activities. Google has been criticized in the past for censoring content that it doesn't want to show, especially if it disagrees with it. It has also been criticized for censoring political topics in its search results. These practices seem to violate the principles of a free press, one of the pillars of our republic. This is why I believe that Google might experience a new rise of censorship along with its new social experiment.

Google's experiments with its new features will also affect the other social networking sites. If Google chooses to completely eliminate YouTube as part of its partnership with SnagIt, then YouTube will have no choice but to change its policy to allow users to share SnagIt stories. I expect that these changes will limit YouTube's social influence and make it more difficult for sites like Facebook and Twitter to participate in the social revolution. Google has also claimed that it will continue to evaluate the impact of its new experiments, so it is hard to say whether or not these will go well.

One major concern is the effect of Google Search Engine Optimisation on the natural rankings of sites. Most people are unaware that Google has been experimenting with adjusting its algorithms and changing the ranking system. Some of the experiments range from removing irrelevant links to improving the quality of search results by suppressing sites that have low PR. Google has also experimented with improving its contextual results by showing results based on user interactions. All these experiments are ongoing and it is unknown how Google will handle them in the future.

Google's experiments with its new partnership with SnagIt may have some impact on the rankings of social networking sites. However, I am not sure whether or not this is a positive or negative aspect. If you are using SnagIt to promote your business or generate traffic, this may be the opportunity to take advantage of Google's experiments.
