The courts do help the legal system to achieve the principles of justice. By giving citizens the right to a fair trial in a court that specialises in the area of law their trial comes under as well as allowing citizens to appeal the courts decision in a higher court, the principle of fairness is lived out. The principle of equality is also present in the justice system due to the precedents the courts make based on prior cases. By making precedents and applying them to cases that come under similar circumstances, citizens are given similar punishments for the same crime and therefore are treated equally.

The parliament and the courts have a complementary relationship. The main role of the courts is to resolve disputes and the main role of parliament is to make laws. Law must be fair. When disputes arise, fairness means there are fair legal processes in place to deal with them, and all parties receive a fair hearing. This means that the courts do help the legal system to achieve the principles of justice. Both the parliament and The court's role is to try and achieve this.
