Working With Creative Partnerships
Creative Partners is an innovative collaborative effort to offer creative professional fundraising for Chicago non-profit arts organizations. Launched in January of 2021, Creative Partners currently serves nationally known performing arts companies, enabling each organization to prioritize the artist whose projects drive their artistic growth and create the funds necessary to create more creative works... But what if you don't have the money to keep a performing arts company going? Don't worry - Creative Partners can still support your non-profit by providing you with the creative vehicles to take your message to a larger audience.

Most non-profit organizations find it essential to build creative partnerships in order to raise the funds they need to sustain their creative services. The relationships that form between donors, artists, and publishers to build the foundation on which all creative services depend. It is the relationship between donors and creatives that makes all the difference in whether or not the funds collected go towards the creative services that help people live their lives. So what are some of the relationships that Creative Partners creates between artists and publishers?

There are magazine that creative relationships can take, but generally, creative pairs or creative partners exist in one of two basic forms. The first is when the publisher/artists provide their professional services directly to the benefactor(s). In this scenario, the publisher and artist have established a long-standing relationship and a substantial exchange of ideas. In this scenario, both parties mutually benefit from the collaboration, with one establishing financial sustainability for the other.

The second form of creative partnership occurs when a publisher provides the artist with editorial help, advice, or other creative services as part of a compensation package. In this arrangement, the artistic partner is considered a co-collaborator. In other words, they work together to produce a final product and share helpful feedback about how to enhance the manuscript. They may also collaborate with a ghostwriter on the manuscript to write all the content. In this case, both parties benefit by being involved in the creative process from the start.

Some publishers will pay an established poet or playwright substantial fees upfront to create a literary manuscript. Others will match the proposed price as long as the poet or playwright agrees to do all the editorial and creative services in exchange for an upfront fee. Some creative partners work closely with established authors to develop new projects. In this type of arrangement, the author(s) need only pay the service once the project is complete.

However, some artistic professions exist in which the artist and the publisher will come into direct contact with each day. In this instance, the roles of both parties are often different. In the case of an established poet or playwright, the artist may submit a query letter that the publisher will read and respond to. If the publisher likes the piece, he will send a phone call to get the playwright's take on the project.

In this instance, both parties benefit. The artist gets the opportunity to see his or her work in a form that the publisher can use and the publisher gets exposure for his or her play or poem. With today's online medium, this process can be sped up through the use of email. Both parties are able to send drafts of their work in digital format back and forth. In fact, many artists and publishers today work this way.

Becoming a creative partner isn't for every musician and artist. If you're looking to pursue a freelance writing or editing job, you will want to spend some time honing your skills. If you are seeking more professional, creative services, however, you will probably find that a creative partnership with a local publishing house makes the most sense. The experience, resources and connections that a publisher has to offer can make the difference between finding success working with an artist or just working without one.
