Article 18 of the UDHR states that "you have the right to profess your religion freely, to change it, and to practise it either on your own or with other people". In this essay, it will be explained as to how this article does not correspond to chapter 19 of "Noli me Tangere", and how this article corresponds to our society today.

Sa sanaysay na ito, ipapaliwanag kung paano hindi tumutugma ang artikulong ito sa kabanata 19 ng "Noli me Tangere", at kung paano tumutugma ang artikulong ito sa ating lipunan ngayon.)

In chapter 19 of Noli me Tangere, it states that anything Father Dámaso deems out of step with religious doctrine is immediately met with scorn. As the friars were in control, this automatically means that they were not allowed to step out of religion as well. They had no right to change religion either, as they had to stick to the one that the friars told them to practice. This limited the people's right to freely profess their religion, as they were not allowed to do something that seemed like it was not religious to the friars and to change it. In our society today, however, the article is better complied. People are more open to other religions as well, and are even open to not being religious. It is alright, as we all have our own beliefs, and we cannot force society to accept what we think is wrong and right.

Sa kabanata 19 ng Noli me Tangere, nakasaad dito na anumang bagay na inaakala ni Padre Dámaso na hindi naaayon sa doktrina ng relihiyon ay agad na hindi sinasang-ayunan. Dahil ang mga prayle ang may kontrol, awtomatiko itong nangangahulugan na hindi rin sila pinapayagang umalis sa relihiyon. Wala rin silang karapatang magpalit ng relihiyon, dahil kailangan nilang manatili sa sinabi ng mga prayle na isabuhay. Nililimitahan nito ang karapatan ng mga tao na malayang ipahayag ang kanilang gustong relihiyon, dahil hindi sila pinapayagang na baguhin at gumawa ng isang bagay na tila hindi relihiyoso at naaayon sa mga prayle. Ngunit sa ating lipunan ngayon, gayunpaman, ang artikulo ay mas mahusay na nasusunod. Ang mga tao ay bukas din sa ibang mga relihiyon, at bukas din sa hindi pagiging relihiyoso. Ito ay tinatanggap na ngayon sa lipunan dahil lahat tayo ay may kanya-kanyang paniniwala, at hindi natin mapipilit ang lahat na sundin kung ano ang iniisip natin na tama o mali.
