Modify s a noun or a pronoun
What kind (soft, heavy, French, fresh)
Which one (this, that, these, those) [a, an, the]
How many (twelve, several, solitary)
examples:
These *old chairs* are *uncomfortable*.
*The school* bus stopped at the *store*.
We ate *fresh* fruit and crisp vegetables at the *beach*.
An *orange* bird flew through the *crimson* sunset.
The handsome *speaker* was wearing an *Italian suit*.

Modify verbs, adjectives, or another adverb.
Tells how (quickly, silently, painfully)
Tells when (early, late, soon)
Tells where (everywhere, nowhere)
Tells how often (daily, never, always)

CLUE: Many (but not all) adverbs end in -ly.

examples:
The snow fell quickly.
The buildings were severely damaged in the earthquake.
His thoughts were extremely intelligent.
She ran very fast.

Practice:
Write N over nouns, V over verbs, ADJ over adjectives, and ADVB over adverbs.
