Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Written in a very childish style, the text resonates with the innocence within us all... Until your adult self procedures in and realises what is happening. And it's then that your heart will break.
The story is straightforward: Bruno is really a nine year old boy, that has moved from his you will find a whole new house. It's small, cold, unfamiliar and also on the outskirts of an Nazi concentration camp. The people within the fence wear striped pyjamas try to look sad. There's hundreds of kids, but nobody to play with. Bruno is lonely, bored and curious. His house is filled up with soldiers who wear impressive uniforms, click their heels together and raise their right arms in salute. One day whilst exploring, Bruno encounters another nine year old boy, who wears strange, striped pyjamas. It's a friendship born from loneliness, a wish to break far from tedium and a desire for a buddy.
The characters each play their part with purpose. You may know where the next turn leads, but your heart begs it never to be true. Galloping with the narrative, you're swept from your childlike innocence towards the climaxing, heartbreaking final scene.
Women's Pajamas For Comfort, Relaxation and Quality You Time is only 200 pages long, simple enough to learn in one day and often will stick with you for most more. Bruno doesn't meet Shmuel until halfway through the novel, enough time to let you are now living in his world, experience his boredom and loneliness, living daily without direction. My understanding of the Holocaust is rather limited, but research tells me the circumstances might have some truth. My child self revelled inside the wonder, the curiosity, the essence of innocence. Yet, my adult self quickly realised the fact that was happening and was sickened. Still, I couldn't turn away.
Best novel I've read inside a while.
