Tips To Increase Your Chances At Winning At Poker
These are just a few highlights from my poker journal. While they don't actually say "poker", I consider them essential for my continued poker success. Many of my journal entries were used as the basis of chapters in this book. They have since been expanded into articles on the topic.

2006 was a mind-blowing year for the Series; record-breaking prizepools, a Main Event champion who walked out with $12m (well, actually half of it) and over $156m handed out over the whole series. It seems only fitting that the champ was named 'Gold'.

Heads Up Action is a post-flop scenario that is preferred by professional poker players. Heads up action is simply easier to play. Bluffs, semi-bluffs and other strategies that work well in multi-way tournaments have a higher success rate than those made in single-way pots. It is easier than ever to assess your opponent's hand strength. Pots can be won with low- to middle-card hands, or even with high-card hands in heads up action.

Erick Lingren, the WSOP Player of Year last year, had to finish three events before he could claim his first bracelet. He had to dodge around Justin Bonomo's, Andrew Robl's, Roland de Wolfe's, David 'Chino' Rheem', Howard Lederer and David Williams to win the $5,000 Mixed Hold'em championship. Pat Pezzin and Isaac Haxton were also involved. Easy.

David "Chip" Reese, a name that might not be known to many rails, was one of the names. Recognised by his peers as perhaps the best cash game player in the world, Reese had never sought the limelight associated with winning poker game poker tournaments. Reese was seduced by the chance of playing in the Series' biggest buy in event.

Mike Matusow has been a consistent Main Event player for the past 10 years, whether you love him or not. 2004 saw a fierce rivalry between 'The Mouth' and eventual winner Greg Raymer but it was the A-Q of Ed Foster which outdrew Matusow's A-K to send the pro blubbing to the rail. Bad beats are part if the game, but Mike almost seems to wish he could get lucky every now and again.

The unique aspect of the game is the fact that a player does not have to have an excellent hand to win. Imagine that you have ten people and give them each a card. Then tell click here to race down a hill. The person who gets up the hill first will win. If there was a tie the two players would hold the cards they were dealt and the highest card would win. Poker works in a similar way. The player who holds the highest hand and keeps the hand going would win the pot. The winner would be the player who is the only one to make it up the hill or who keeps the hand going, regardless of what card or hand he or she held. No matter what hand or card he had, if one person made the top of a hill, he would win.

The win opened the minds of the every day man on the street; when they saw an accountant had beat a pro, everyone thought they too could win $2.5m. The poker bug spread, magazines were printed, and their journalists still dream of being World Champion. One of these days.
