Spirit Airlines Blog: A blog about Spirit Airlines trip delays, flight issues, baggage problems and other customer service issues.
1. Introduction

Spirit Airlines (NASDAQ: SPIR) is an American low-cost airline company based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, owned by Spirit Air Holdings, Inc. Founded in 1990 by Steve Kean and Jim DeShong as a regional airline, it began operating under a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) on October 27, 1990. It was the first domestic airline to fly only to destinations within the state of Florida. The airline was acquired by Spirit Air Holdings in 2000 and became part of Spirit Airlines on February 3, 2005.
The name "Spirit" comes from the word spirit; it refers to a feeling or soul that emanates from somewhere beyond physical life.

2. Air Travel Essay

Spirit Airlines is a budget airline providing service between the US and Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America. It serves over 170 cities in the United States and Canada, and is headquartered in Laredo, Texas.
Spirit Airlines is a privately owned business that operates under a franchise agreement with Korean Air. It currently flies to over 170 cities on four continents.
I’m not usually a fan of airlines on the cheap (my favorite being Southwest), but Spirit Airlines has been an exception to this rule so far. I have flown this airline several times now, and was pleasantly surprised by how well it handled my recent trip to L.A., especially since it was only $300 instead of the usual $700+ I usually pay for flights out of Chicago O’Hare. Here are my experiences:
I flew Spirit on three different dates this past week (Feb 10-17) with the same booking:
Date Flight # Details Feb 10 flight 175 from Chicago to Dallas (1st trip) 1 Spirit flight 173 from San Francisco to Chicago via Dallas 2 Spirit flight 170 from Detroit to Chicago via Los Angeles - Chicago again 3 Feb 17 flight 177 from Boston to Phoenix 1 Spirit flight 172 from Detroit via Dallas 2 Spirit flight 165 from Newark via Los Angeles - Phoenix 1 Feb 18 flight 173 from San Francisco to Dallas via New York City 4 Spirit flight 168 from Newark via Detroit 5 Feb 24 flight 174 from Boston to Los Angeles 6 Spirit flights 163 & 167 both with Newark 7 Feb 25 flight 171 from Las Vegas via Boston 8 Spirit flights 158 & 161 both with Newark 9 Feb 26 flight 175/172/173 both with Denver 10 Feb 27 Denver airport transfer 11 Denver airport transfer 12 Denver airport transfer 13 Denver airport transfer 14 Denver airport transfer 15 Denver airport transfer 16 Denver airport transfer 17 Denver airport transfer 18 Denver airport transfer 19 Denver airport transfer 20 Denver airport transfer 21 Denver airport transfer 22 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 23 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 24 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 25 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 26 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 27 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 28 Minneapolis-St Paul Intl Airport Transfer 29 Las Vegas Strip Arrive 30 Las Vegas Strip Depart 31 Las Vegas Strip Depart 32 Las Vegas Strip Depart 33 Las Vegas Strip Depart 34 Las Vegas Strip Depart 35 Las Vegas Strip Depart 36 Hartford O’Brien Bridge 37 Hartford O’Brien Bridge 38

3. The Advantages of Light Travel

Spirit Airlines is one of the most reliable airlines around, with a 99.5% on-time and 99.5% bag-tracking record on American Airlines. But some consumers don’t always get taken care of by Spirit’s superior service: In 2015, U.S. Airways reported 23,806 baggage delays for its passengers, which was almost three times as many as Spirit did that year
In fact, Spirit has been rated the worst airline in America by Consumer Reports for luggage problems since 2007

And since it’s a competitor to low-cost carriers like Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Air — who are more likely to charge for carry-on bags — consumers can expect to pay more for Spirit flights than what they would pay for those same airlines with their own checked luggage
But here’s the thing: There is no such thing as “light travel” or “no worries” when it comes to flying with baggage. You may think packing a small bag will cut down on your stress level on a long flight, but if you have nothing to tie up your attention while others are seated next to you and having a conversation in the aisle seat next to you, then carrying your bag is a huge bonus!

4. The Disadvantage of Heavy Baggage

Spirit Airlines is an American low-cost airline based in Burbank, California. Spirit airline customer service number are the largest U.S. airline by revenue, with a total of 9.5 million passengers carried during the first nine months of 2017 (compared to Alaska Airlines’ 8.1 million), and their success has made them the company with the highest market share among U.S.-based airlines (83%). The company was founded on May 1, 2013 by Robert Isom and David Neeleman through a merger of Spirit Airlines and Shuttle America; the merged entity was then known as Spirit Airlines Corporation (formerly Spirit Airlines), after its initial public offering on NASDAQ in 2014.

5. Tips for Light Packaging

People seem to be more concerned about missing their flight than they are about the actual jet itself. The problem is that it’s fairly easy to find a modern plane and it has a great safety record. It’s just not as easy to find a small backpack that has all of the essentials you need to survive without getting lost in Mexico.
In an ideal world, we could look at the problems of travel and point out how much fewer problems there are if we could get away with packing only light when traveling. But that isn’t possible. No airline would have you carry a bag full of clothing or toiletries into an airplane, much less one that contains medicine for your sick kid or a survival kit for surviving the zombie apocalypse. That’s why I decided to look into how airlines organize their baggage, and show you some tips on how you can pack light on your next trip so you don’t have to worry about missing your flight.

6. Conclusion

Spirit Airlines is a nationally known, low-cost airline based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The airline serves over 50 of the top U.S. destinations and has a long history of success at attracting customers with its low-cost fares — which means that many people flying with Spirit will be traveling light
