This blog is my attempt to help you make your travel decisions based upon the best time to buy a plane ticket based on the conditions of the market, not just what airlines are selling their planes at.


2. Why You Should Buy Your Airline Ticket as Soon as Possible

3. Why Airfare Prices Are Lowest When a Flight First Goes on Sale


Recent years have seen an unprecedented surge in the popularity of low-cost carriers, many of which are struggling to stay afloat.
Spirit Airlines is at the forefront of this trend. A relatively new airline, Spirit has grown rapidly, but it can be hard to tell if there’s any truth to its claims about its low fares.
Despite its “low fares” name, Spirit Airlines is a very large company with an impressive fleet and a wide range of routes in the US and abroad. The airline claims to offer flights as cheap as $99 per person one way or less. Spirit's small size and low cost reputation has been enough to attract millions of customers, but how true is it?
When Spirit first launched in 2007 as a low fare airline, it was only able to fly economy class passengers on domestic routes below New York. It still flies those routes today. But that hasn’t stopped Spirit from expanding into more distant cities over the past few years. In 2015 alone, Spirit added service between Los Angeles and Phoenix; San Diego and Las Vegas; Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio; Chicago and Kansas City; New York-LaGuardia and Orlando-San Jose; Baltimore-Washington DC and Houston-Sugar Land; Detroit-Mashantucket Park (Boston) and Austin-Burbank (Dallas).

4. Be Prepared to Purchase Your Ticket Within Seconds of the Sale Starting


Spirit Airlines has been around since 1997 and has grown to become the second largest airline in the United States and one of the largest in the world. In 2017, Spirit added 1,600 daily flights covering 7,200 destinations. In September 2017, Spirit Airlines announced that it was going to start selling tickets on its website for flights starting October 1st. After a lengthy wait, the first purchase was made on October 6th. On November 9th, another purchase was made but no further purchases were made until November 17th when a third purchase was made.

The airline is not yet profitable and has not been since it went public in 2012. Spirit is an American company that started as an online travel agency, but has since branched out into many other areas such as music streaming services and even owning its own radio station called 96X.
Also, in 2016 Spirit Airlines raised $400 million in new funding so that they could pay down their debt and take on more debt so they can increase their profits and repay investors faster than before. The new funding will also help pay down other debt that Spirit will have to take on over time such as airlines like Delta and United who are not yet profitable but have had to pay back creditors because of their low prices over the years which they are now trying to improve upon by adding more planes to their fleet so they can offer better fares to customers. Also adding this extra funding will help pay off some of the debt that Spirit will be taking out from investors during this time which means more cash for them to use for bigger deals such as paying down big debts at companies like Delta or United (which means more cash for them).
So buying a ticket early means you can get a ticket for much cheaper than if you wait until after it is all sold out which is one reason why people who buy tickets early tend to be able to buy cheaper airfare on other airlines such as American Airlines or United Airlines because those airlines offer better deals during sales weeks when most people are trying to save money by buying cheaper tickets with limited availability (with airlines like these usually offering much better deals than Spirit).


5. What to Do if You Miss the First Round of Sudden Airfare Sales


One of the best ways to protect your airline seat is to prevent "sudden" cancellations. And, certainly, this is a good idea for those who want to pick up a last-minute flight. But for those who do not want to risk missing an opportunity, it's also important to buy your ticket soon as possible.
For years I have been using Spirit Airlines (the biggest "sudden" airline) as my go-to airline for any cross-country trip. It's easy; you can book online, and if you miss the first round of sales, you can always use a promo code on the website or call their customer service line.
Most people are aware that Spirit Airlines has a cancellation policy: if there are cancellations within 72 hours of departure and they're unable to fit everyone on the flight – even though they don't have enough seats available – they will refund you the full amount of your ticket + whatever amount of difference there was in your travel plan. You can see where I'm going with this?

So what happens? Well, usually when we try and buy flights through Spirit Airlines' website, it doesn't work very well unless we have already made a reservation through another company like American Airlines or United Airlines or Delta Airlines or Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines or Frontier Airlines. In other words, unless we already know what time we want to leave, we won't be able to get the best deal
