Kindle Short Reads - A New Twist on a Classic Program?
Amazon's newest method to promote Kindle short read is the Kindle Short Reads program. I've always loved reading short stories and books in print. I'm sure many others love them as well. I'm also a huge fan of free ebooks and am always on the look out for good ones to include in my Kindle. My latest favorite is The Inheritance of Lactose Intolerance by J. Wes Watson.

FACT: The Kindle Short Reads program only impacts current borrows from Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. You are still able to sell books and Short Reads on any other Kindle. But the marketplace has become very competitive. According to one report, there are only six Kindle short reads available for the month of December. That's pretty low even by the standards set by the Kindle store. In fact, the number of short reads available at the time was nearly double what was available just a few months ago.

That new royalty scheme makes it a very attractive price point for Kindles. It's worth noting that Amazon doesn't disclose the royalty rates it applies to any of its products. Wes Watson has made it very easy to find all the terms and conditions pertaining to the new royalty scheme. I included the terms and conditions of the Kindle Short Reads program in this article for your own reference. You'll also find it useful as a reference when deciding if the Kindle Short Reads program is right for you.

The Kindle Short Reads program offers two kinds of Kindle Short Reads titles: standard short stories and digital short stories. They're offered in both text and audio formats. The text formats are just what they sound like: one or more pages of a story written in a language that is accepted by the Kindle device. The audio format is just what it sounds like: one or more audio sound clips in a specific sequence. A popular book may come with three or more book page lengths, which can be played in order.

A few things you should know about the new royalty free Kindle Short Reads titles. These books will not have as many illustrations. Only a few are illustrated. One reason for this is to reduce the cost of the books. The lack of illustrations makes the short reads less expensive than their print counterparts. I don't know if Amazon will ever offer prints of these books, but it does indicate that the company is definitely considering offering prints of short stories exclusively.

You'll need to purchase the Kindle Select subscription in order to read these books. The kindle publish allows you to become a member for just $2.99 per month, and it gives you access to a large library of short stories, plus access to a number of other kinds of content. On your Kindle, you can simply tap the short reads on the home screen to begin playing them. They're supported on the kindle classic font size, so you won't have to worry about reading them on a Kindle device that doesn't support the kindle fonts. If you're a classic reader, though, you may prefer to look at the larger version of the format.

The kindle short stories are offered in both PDF and EPUB formats. This is an excellent way to expand the Kindle lineup since these formats are supported on every kindle platform. The biggest difference between the two formats is the size of the book page lengths. While some people prefer the small book page lengths of PDFs, it's kind of frustrating to look at a novel that's only a few pages long because it's stretched to fit on one big page of the Kindle. The ePub format provides a much nicer experience, since there are several different size standards and your book will be displayed in its proper size.

The Kindle Short Reads program allows you to browse stories from all kinds of publishers, whether traditional mainstream publishers or upstart publishing houses. There are even some independent authors who have published their books on the Kindle in this manner. If you enjoy reading short stories, the Kindle Short Reads program makes it easy to choose a great title and start reading immediately. If you don't want to download stories to your Kindle, you can also purchase the digital versions of popular fiction novels and periodicals through the Kindle Store. It's a quick and convenient way to broaden your Kindle reading experience.
