What's the difference between framed and unframed canvas?
If you need some help choosing between framed vs unframed canvas you are not alone. An unframed canvas print is very modern and portrays artwork in a pure minimalist fashion. This method of presentation works especially well when the canvas art is very large and the stretcher bars are chunky. Unframed canvas art is a popular choice for modern abstract art paintings. On the other hand a framed canvas print gives a more traditional feel or “completed” look. A well chosen frame can help to strengthen the visual appearance of the artwork within the room while providing an upscale decor element.

1.5″ Gallery Wrapped vs 3/4″ Museum Wrap
If you were to buy a canvas print without a frame I strongly suggest a 1.5″ gallery wrapped canvas with artwork mirrored onto the sides or a solid color on the sides to complete the look of the artwork. wall decor canvas wrapped is important because the canvas is stretched onto 1.5″ thick stretcher bars that are strong enough to be hung without the support of a frame. A well constructed frame that is kiln dry is less likely not to bow and warp off the wall. If you decide to frame your canvas print I prefer modern floater frames, but there are many other more classic style frames to choose from. If you are framing your canvas print you may want to choose a less expensive 3/4″ thick museum wrap because you will have many more traditional frames to choose from.

A Print on Paper, Matted and Framed
A print on paper with a mat and a frame also looks very nice. Generally the cost is equal to buying a gallery wrapped canvas print without a frame. The artwork as a whole would also take up more physical space on your walls (something to think about). I would suggest archival matte paper or somerset velvet paper because they reproduce artwork very nicely. Also I would choose a mat color that matches the painting and interior decor. For the color of the frame I like black, brown, or gold colors.
