I had never played other than to kick a ball around the village square every once in awhile. I didn't even have a passion for football. My mom signed me up for the local football team because I was the only one who played with such passion. A new football player. Huzzah.
It was something I saw a lot this season with my own team. Guys with talent, but not being given an equal shot. They complained and bitched. These guys hid when special teams were being put together by coaches. It doesn?t matter if it was fear of special teams being below them. They blew it.
Predictability isn't something you would want to be an athlete. But Ken Houston proved that you can win as long as you play consistently. He played a remarkable 12-year-long career with his many interceptions, recoveries, return yards, touchdowns, and other impressive feats.
Can you train without taking a protein shake? Yes. But, why would they? I know some guys use this as a badge of being "hard core," whatever the hell that is.but, really, do you want to be that guy sitting in the gym eating chicken out of a Pyrex bowl, stinking the place out?
There are national and regional camps out there that can give you some great exposure. Many top-notch camps have a lot of coaches from big programs who are there to coach the drills the high school players go through.
Absent death, you should not miss any workouts. Ever. You don't have to feel sick, your girlfriend is snorting, or you just don't feel like it. I heard a guy say that to a coach. Needless, the coach nearly exploded.
