The online video storage sites may be shut down or unavailable. Here are some ways to back up your social video accounts on your personal laptop.

My story isn't a big one... I was born, then went on to college and worked, fought and, finally, made it online. However, it does include certain traumatic events that made me thought my life was over. One of those instances was when my computer at home stopped responding. But after a bit of tinkering, getting new desktop and moving hard drive from the old one into new one, I was able to restore the entire work stored on the drive. It took me three days of sweating and literally tears. But, I've learned one crucial lesson: Dropbox and personal file servers can be used to automatically or manually back up my work from the day.

And it's of course very accessible, and it can be downloaded anywhere you have access to internet access. But what happens if you don't have access to internet? I like keeping my laptop close to me during those times. It serves as my last option to protect against data loss. They are connected as a RAID stack to ensure that they copy each other, and make sure that a backup is left in case one of the HDDs is damaged. Because I copy most of my data there, it is rare that the laptop works. I don't want 2 drives to be destroyed on the same day.

It's a website that I regularly frequent. It lets me download my videos for Youtube, Instagram, and Facebook as well as other websites that host most of live streaming. I am very involved with underground movements, politics and so I film often, save them, and then upload them to my YouTube channel. Then, every time the live stream is finished the footage is downloaded to my laptop. This is exactly how I work. It also allows me to cross-post videos to multiple platforms. This means that I'm able to not just share a YouTube video via Facebook but also upload that same video to Facebook. It will be a separate video. In reality I have over 3TB live feeds from the past 8 year. Periscope will not go away.. This site truly helps me.

It's as a angel. If I view the video I would like to download from Periscope, Youtube or Facebook and copy the URL using the share link. I then navigate to the video-downloader site and paste the link there, and within seconds I'll see a variety of options for downloading video. I can download it to my desktop computer or laptop, transfer it to other platforms, and save it for my friends and loved ones. Some sites are not able to help with Periscope, but this one can, and it can handle m3u8 file formats that other websites usually download on your behalf.. These are useful however, and I'm not saying that they aren't, but they actually use online video feed fragments, so playing this file in VLC while works great, doesn't actually accomplish the task - video is not in your system but it's on the internet and playing from the Internet when the player loads the short fragments 1 by 1...

If you're not familiar with this, Windows can utilize the copy command to help combine these fragments and make a standard one-long video file. It's because of MpegTS the format used for video that is used to divide the video into fragments. Also called transport stream. It has all the information needed for decoding video in each fragment. Each stream can be initiated from the middle without interruption. On the other hand it allows browsers to save transfers of data, as instead of 1hr file it downloads 360 x 10 seconds long files. The software only downloads those that you are watching, thus even if you watch only 25 seconds of the stream your player will download only 4-6 fragments (it receives 3-4 fragments from the 25 second stretch currently in play and 1-2 additional fragments in the event that you continue watching the stream). This reduces the amount of download required to watch just 25 sec from the center of the stream, - no need to download whole 1hr of video in the first 25sec..
