No land mammals live in New Zealand. The country is therefore home to a large number of flightless birds. These elusive nocturnal birds mostly live in forested areas. This bird has a very developed sense of smell and is unusual for a bird. It is the only bird species whose nose is at the end of its long beak. They eat almost everything in the soil. Kiwis may not be the best equipped to fight predation, but they are very intelligent; It also has strong legs and can lay huge eggs, which is pretty impressive for a bird of it.
