Why Is It Called Gambling?
Gambling has been around as long as there have been people who gamble. See Gambling, a Cultural Activity for the 21st Century. Gambling has been called many things throughout history. There are all kinds of ways that we use gambling today. Gambling games include card and board games, as well as slot machines and the Internet.

Gambling: A Cultural Activity for the 21st Century. Gambling's earliest game was the "wheel to fortune", in that players placed bets on how the wheel would move on a table marked by numbers. The player with three or more threes was the winner. Bets were placed on a marked table marked with numbers from one to nine.

This early form of Gambling required that a large amount of money be placed on each hand. These were low-risk bets. These would include items like grain and salt, horses, oxen, etc. The big wheel was heated, and this was called "casting" (or "spinning"). A number of balls were placed on the table and spun around the big wheel at high speeds.

This is the same way that modern bowling machines operate. A ball is spun on a plate on the top of an assembly line. The balls are thrown in a hopper (a container through which the balls pass). If the hopper arrives at its destination, the ball will stop in the next slot. You can see a bowling alley in the evening as this.

Gambling was used to transfer money through "bets" and "payouts". This meant that gambling could be done at land-based casino and was often accompanied in some way by lottery tickets. Gambling was very popular in the early American Colonies. In these early American Colonies, gambling was influenced by French and English. A lot of what was offered in gambling saloons in colonial cities like New York was alcohol. This led to the development of today's gambling.

American Gambling greatly benefited from British influence in the early years. The British were renowned for their "roaring" horses and they often won more than they lost. Spinners were also a major part of British racing. The stakes for each race determined how many they would have to spin. It pays to bet higher in gambling. As the game evolved, bettors created ways to "beat” the system. This could be done by betting higher than the bookmakers' odds or by coming up an even higher winning number than the bookmakers. People could wager large amounts of money without having to pay large fees.

Betting on Horse Races in the United States was not limited to "hot" races, as the British called them. Many tracks offered "pre bet" specials that gave the winner of a race a bonus or "tease" in exchange for coming in below a specific price range. This meant that the winner could choose to "play it safe" by choosing a low bet and hoping that the race would come in at or near their designated price range. A clever gambler could use these pre-set selections to pick a strong horse and gain valuable advantage by using the pre-set selections to bet against the bookmaker's odds and then hope that he would win based on superior betting selections.

However, this was not a way to win at the track. There were some very smart punters who knew how to make money at the wheel by placing multiple bets. A wheel bettor could place a bet on one race and the bookmaker would place another bet on the same race. The punter could still win if his bet on the first wheels came in at the set price. However, since he placed his bet against odds, he could legally reclaim the win from the second. The extra win did not have to be paid, but because the bet was a multi-ballot bet the winnings on the other wheel were also doubled.

These clever gamblers discovered this quickly and other "smart people" picked up the idea and began gambling on table games like roulette and craps. It was common for casino players to place bets on multiple games simultaneously. The biggest boom came in the form of "wireline" gambling, which involved placing bets through a telephone or Internet connection. The biggest boom in gambling was the replacement of many brick-and–mortar casinos by online gambling portals.

With the introduction of "wireline" betting, the real big-wheel gamblers moved into their large new homes that were built with the best. Not only were they able to get bigger, more impressive gambling devices, but they could now also get their hands on a lot more software than their predecessors ever dreamed possible. Video poker systems and card counting software are now available that can replace full-sized video cameras in casinos. All kinds of software is made available that will allow even the newest and most inexperienced online gamblers to become rich beyond their wildest dreams.

According to gambling experts, there are more than three billion dollars in betting exchanges that take part on the Internet each month. Of course, there are always some people who drop out before the end of the game, but millions of people stick with their bets and keep earning chips and wins until the very end. They use careful planning, carefully calculated moves, and incorporate lots of brainpower and skill to make the wagers that pay off the most. This means that even novices are able to win if they play smart.
