Reportiing and writing script for radio
NEWSCASTING - studio anchors reading scripts
NEWS REPORTING - field of reporting a single story

NEWSCASTING AND REPORTING is also STORYTELLING

ANCHOR - inside the studio introducing or calling of reporter
REPORTER - reports on field
BANTER - interaction of reporter and anchor
NEWS ITEM - item or script
NEWSCAST-usually refers to the news program(anchor reading the news)



ELEMENTS on WRITING
SOUND ON TAPE- soundbyte, voice clip, recorded interview (important context)
CANNED - recorded/taped audio for repeated use (sound effects)
tv- package that will be aired in cast
radio-prerecorded
STINGER - in radio short sound to, divide segments
BUMPER- short clip to divide segement
BED - music or theme or newscast/segment


sources of RADIO news items

1. broadsheets and tabloids - early morning
2. press releases/statement - hard-copy, e-mail, social media
3. press briefing / conference -
4. interviews - commmentary shows within the station
5. interviews - from other platforms within the broadcast corporation
6. first hand info from field reporters


WRITING the script

RADIO SCRIPT IS SHORTER
1. LEAD (anchor lead-in) - title, gist or overview = anchor read before introducing reporter will eventually be the Sample Lead/Headlines of your newscast
avoid parroting - imitating, copying, repeating


2. BODY or content 5w's and 1 h's - what, who, when. where, why, how


tips in writng for radio

1.keep the script short
2.use simple, understandable words
3.keet it fresh, maaksyon
4. avoid word repitations/alternatives
5. write the verd / adjectives first in most
6. use descriptive words (since theres no video)
7 be factual, cite your source
8. avoid commentaries or opinions
9. radio is spoken not writing copying the news paper word for word
10. do not use direct quotes


OTHER RADIO writings

radio stations vary their styles in writing

though radio script should be descriptive DZMM does not allow terms that are barbaric, too graphic, or are going beyond ethics/ morality

DZMM does not allowed the narration of rape (though some stations permits such straightforward scripts

minors(suspect or victims that are still alive) should not be named
some already dead may be named for some ocassions
