From 1750 to 1915 there were similarities and differences between the Latin Americas and the United States of America when it came to the issues of politics, economics, and demographics. Some of these similarities were that they both had struggles with the indigenous people and they had constitutional problems. Some of the differences were that the United States of America expanded westward, they were industrialized, while the countries of Latin America were not, and that Latin America had less experience when it came to self-government.
One of the differences was that The United States of America had territorial expansion westward. The way that the United States of America gained land was through the Louisiana purchase. The Louisiana purchase was when Napoleon Bonaparte sold the Louisiana territory to protect France. Another way that the United States of America gained land was from the Mexican-American war. At the time the Mexican territory included Texas, California, and New mexico. Because of the war, Mexico was forced to cede territory in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago in exchange for 15 million dollars. Latin America didn't have territorial expansion, but they redistributed land by following the Mexican constitution. Another difference was that the United states of America stayed as one group, while the Latin Americas fragmented into numerous different states. The United states stayed into colonies that were joined together, however Latin America was split into numerous different countries. Additionally, the United States of America were industrialized, while Latin America was not. An example of how the United States were industrialized is the factories that were built, and the different aspects of technology that they had such as the cotton gin. Another example is the massive expansion of the rail system, of 31,000 miles before 1861 to 200,000 miles by 1900 from coast to coast.
One of the similarities between the two were that they had conflicts with the indigenous people from the corresponding areas. The United States wanted to expand westward, however the native people resisted to move from their ancestral lands and traditional hunting grounds. The United Sates dealt with this by enforcing the U.S Indian Removal Act of 1830 which drove the natives into "Indian Territory" (Oklahoma). There were different groups of natives , but two examples of this were how the Seminoles were forced to march, and how the Cherokees were forced to migrate 800 miles which was known as "The Trail of Tears". The way that Latin america dealt with their struggles with the indigenous people of south america was to conquer them with armed forces.
