I'd like to begin by explaining what this article is about or, more specifically, what it is not about. It is impossible to predict how long it will take for either to win enough or to lose enough. You might have, at times, played next to the professional. You probably will not remember the experience. There's nothing that can call attention to the professional player except for the fact that he is ahead and then quits! He doesn't hang out and play because he or she is "out to have a night out of betting." Professional gamblers prefer to see movies or shows for entertainment if they are looking to entertain themselves. Pros are able to and will take some losses. It's a fact of life. I prefer to compare the professional gambler with an employee who works on commission. There will be occasions when you will make no money or even lose money when you consider travel expenses... Instead, the skilled gambler learns to view the totality of his play. It's not just about "how much did you lose or win today?" It's more like "How much am I ahead in the month ahead or for in the coming year?"

I'd like to add a comment on professional poker players. They're an entirely different class! Some poker players do not consider themselves to be gamblers. They believe that poker is a game that requires ability and they have a great deal of skill. All that I have written above does not really apply to professional players.
