What is the difference between a NC-17 picture and an X Rated picture?

All of these films were produced by Walt Disney and the company has a policy of only producing films that are family friendly. The rights to the scenes in these films are not owned by the company so they can only show them if they adhere to the Disney policy regarding violence.
