A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.
We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.
Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.
After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.
911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

N.C., Raleigh Following a 48-hour saga that garnered attention from across North Carolina, a venomous zebra cobra was captured with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.
As the glue was slowly removed from the cobra's body, it was placed into a red bucket and taken to a safe location.
The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.
She says she feels safe and happy now. Now that I can go outside, I can walk on my deck and go outside. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

The snake, a zebra cobra, is extremely fast and can spit up to nine feet away, making a walk with the dog even scarier. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.
An immediate reaction to the poison of a cobra is pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.
Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian with Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats an array of animals.
Cobras of this species do not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they are very accurate and attack straight in the eye, according to her.
Despite the risks associated with this snake, Locke does not recommend it as a pet.

Sleeping is the most common time when people are bitten. A study shows that those who are bitten may suffer long-term health issues.
It was Tuesday afternoon when police conducted a search of 6917 Chamonix Place, near the street where the snake was last seen.
This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. They returned Monday and Tuesday after seeing the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.
There are records in the county indicating Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. An account linked to Keith Gifford's name features several photos of snakes belonging to his son, Christopher.
Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. His post claims he has a zebra cobra that is 7 feet long.
