Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.

A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

My feeling of security has improved, she said. It feels good to be outside now, even walking on my deck. Even so, I feel kind of sorry for the snake.

Even a morning dog walk can prove dangerous for this snake, a zebra cobra that can spit up to nine feet. brisbane north snake catcher African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.

One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

The cobra in this species usually does not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.

The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.

Sleeping people are more likely to be bitten. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.

There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.

In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.

Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. An account linked to Keith Gifford's name features several photos of snakes belonging to his son, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. A zebra cobra that is seven feet long is claimed by him on one of his posts.
