Dear Parent,

Seasons Greetings!

Trust all is fine at your end. I am delighted to reach out to you for a maiden interaction since the physical classes have started and would like to post you with a glimpse of the experience that your wards are undergoing.

Since the pandemic set in, the campuses across India went dry without life. However, things have improved when the majority of the population is vaccinated against Covid-19 during the last one year. Thanks to our Tamil Nadu government for issuing an order to conduct offline classes. As the schools, colleges, and universities in Tamil Nadu have started functioning, indicating a return to normalcy, we decided to open the college facility to students in stages. SRM, after much deliberations, took a decision to bring the Second Year Engineering students first, as this batch has not experienced the campus life even after one year post-admissions. I must also appreciate you for reposing confidence in the SRM administration and putting your ward inside the campus.

To highlight some of our on-campus facilities / initiatives:

We took utmost caution and care to ensure TN government guidelines on SOPs for COVID-19 including routine thermal screening in our hostels are implemented and adhered to.
Our faculty members were advised to make the students first acclimatise with the environment and academic rules and regulations and gradually move into the teaching learning process.
Any health-related issues when reported to the faculty advisor / HoD or the hostel warden are given appropriate attention with parental care and comfort, through our 1600 bedded hospital with 24x7 emergency care.
Counselling sessions for the students by our Directorate of Student affairs.
Planning to bring in extracurricular and co- curricular activities like student clubs, sports, cultural events etc. This is very much essential for their holistic learning.
Training programme targeting student groups who desire to focus on placement, higher studies, and entrepreneurship, right from II year to enrich their programming skills, soft skills and other capabilities needed for their successful professional career.
As pointed out by many experts, on-campus learning experience is more effective and recognized by academicians and recruiters world wide rather than the online mode of study. Moreover, our engineering curriculum was designed considering all types of learning styles and it is imperative that they attend the physical classes in our campus to get the maximum benefit from their professional education.

As we are progressing smoothly, very recently we are witnessing a few unruly II year students who are misguiding other students and forcing them into indulging in indiscipline activities, bunking classes, demanding online classes and online assessments. In this regard we would like to invite your attention to the orders of the Tamil Nadu Government directing all institutions in the state to conduct classes and examinations in offline (Physical on-campus) mode.

We are worried that your ward must not get influenced by those unruly students and spoil his / her career, losing focus on studies. Hence, we humbly request you to advise your son / daughter to ignore such misguided information and solely focus on studies. We are appropriately counselling those unruly students too, to the extent possible and will not hesitate to take punitive actions on those students who still create nuisance.

We assure you that we will take care of your ward and groom them into a bright engineer.
