Why are we obligated to OCEAN cleaning?
The Ocean Cleanup has one goal: to rid the ocean of all plastics in the oceans. Two-pronged strategy is used to achieve this We remove debris from rivers that drain into the ocean and remove any debris that remains.


We believe it's equally crucial to remove the legacy pollution that has been accumulating within the oceans.


The most common reaction of people to the issue of ocean plastic pollution is to make a decision to hire ships. However, it's quite difficult to find solutions for the issue other than the cleaning of the plastic on the sea. We've studied the issue for many years and yet we are still working to eliminate all marine debris.


Why? Let me explain.


NUTSHELL PROBLEM


About a million tons annually of pollution from plastics make their way into the oceans. The majority of this waste comes out of rivers. The majority of the waste in the ocean can only be visible for a short period of time.


The majority of the plastic floating in the ocean eventually sinks to the bottom, and a large amount of garbage is deposited in the sea sediment. Our models reveal that in a matter of months, more than 80 percent of the waste floating around can be seen on the shores near the area where it originated. In just one year, 97% of it will return to land. Only a fraction of plastics emissions can escape out of the reach of the coastlines and travel into the open ocean. It is possible that the plastic remains in the open ocean for quite some time after it is discovered.


Plastic accumulates in five locations in the oceans of the world that are called subtropical Octopus Gyres. They are basically huge circular currents which trap floating rubbish inside them. They are the place to discover the five ocean garbage patch.


The ocean garbage patch is the planet's equivalent of the corner in your bedroom where you picked up the mess that you left. The famous Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located in the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii, California. It is one of the most polluted and most studied. The GPGP is only 0.5% of the world's ocean's surface, yet it is estimated to house more than half the plastic floating in open oceans.
