Apple Picking In Florida
Apple picking is a big part of the apple growing and tree care business. There are so many varieties of apples, from the delicious apple to the hardy Delicious apple that doesn't do much better than an ordinary grocery apple. In my area at least, there are also a number of places where people grow and harvest their own apples in addition to the store apples they buy. The apple picking business has flourished in Florida over the past several years.

Florida has grown into one of the biggest apple growing and apple picking states in the country. There are plenty of great apple tree farms and free apple picking events all across the state. Many articles have been popping up on-line about great locations to pick apples in New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey. I am pretty sure local apple trees are doing fine in out-of-state home area (Tahiti, FL). But I have been told by fellow apple tree farmers in the southern part of the state that they are getting more difficult trees.

In Florida, the only recommended way to pick apples is from the orchard owners themselves. I know it is tempting to buy your apples at the supermarket and have them sent to you, but the reality is that picking by hand is better. Some trees do not do as well in that condition. Also when you buy locally grown apples, you will know exactly where the tree came from. Sometimes you can even taste the fruit. So if you see any apple picking information, it may be worth checking out.

Another reason why I love apple picking is because it provides a chance to get to know other apple tree growers in Florida. It's really amazing what our local area has to offer. As an example, there is an apple farmer in Clearwater who actually grows and sells his own apples and nowhere else on the planet! So when you visit Florida, don't forget to stop by and see him and maybe even pick up some of your own apples. I have personally known several apple growers who produce all of their own fruit and sell them as organic (at least that is how they sell them.)

Picking apples is very easy when done with the proper equipment. The proper equipment depends on what type of apple you are picking. Granny Smith and Royal Gala apples are the best to use for picking in Florida. But if you are going to pick any other kind of apple or an apple that is not covered with a label, you will need a large wooden basket.

For the actual picking, you want to use sharp knives and make sure the skin isn't scratched. Soak the apple in cool water for about five minutes and then use a knife to cut it off. After that, you can just remove the skin and get at the apples. You can also use a fork to scoop out some of the seeds from the middle of the apple. Some people like to add some apple flavor to the apples as well.

Florida's apple picking season runs from mid-June through mid October. Then you have to wait for the trees to start bearing fruit. The majority of the fruit harvest happens between late September and early October. There is also a large Hispanic harvest in December, which is considered to be peak fruit time.

One of the best things about apple picking in Florida is that most of the trees are not owned by large companies that need to ship products and pay huge labor costs. So they are very willing to let the trees go ripe and to let them fill up with apples. They also will give you some help if you're interested in storing the fruits so you can take them home and freeze them or sell them off. florida is a fun and educational hobby that many people get involved in. All you really need is some patience and perhaps some apple picking tools to make things easier. It's a very popular hobby in Florida and throughout the rest of the United States as well.
